Department Vision

The Design and Technology curriculum at Wolverley CE secondary school aims to inspire the next generation of innovators, knowing that this is the key to success, by providing exposure to different cultural and social influences that nurtures curiosity, encourages our students to have compassion, and broadens horizons, encouraging life in all of its fullness. Working in an equitable culture to break down barriers, empowering all students to flourish and become independent thinkers, recognising what we become when we strive to be the best that we can. We will achieve this in a just environment through problem solving, building connections, encouraging independent thinkers and pushing boundaries within our creativity and promoting ambition unlimited, developing our students into the people God created them to be as individuals.

Subject Information

Design and Technology at Wolverley will provide students with a range of opportunities building skills and knowledge through aspects like understanding the environmental impacts of materials in Product Design, to working with surface decoration in Textiles, understanding the importance of white space in Graphic Design and the impacts of nutrition in Food Preparation and Nutrition.

All students in key stage 3 rotate around these four Design and Technology subjects and have the opportunity to study Product Design, Textiles, Graphic Design and Food Preparation and Nutrition.

Students are encouraged to be creative and experimental in D&T across the curriculum and Ambition Unlimited is at the heart of everything we do.

We also offer a number of enrichment activities throughout the week and engage with students during lunchtimes and after school to help foster their enjoyment of the subject, providing different challenges to those in class settings. Examples of this is Lego club, Eco Ambassadors and DofE cooking club.

I.T. is important in D&T and we have recently invested in a new Laser cutter where students see their designs being cut from wood or plastic.

Budding designers can opt for Design and Technology, Graphic Design or Food Preparation and Nutrition, or BTEC Health and Social Care at GCSE and experience a wide range of theory and practical activities to prepare them for the world of work or further study.
