- Wolverley Animal Centre (WAC)
Wolverley Animal Centre is based in our school grounds. The bespoke centre delivers the Level 2 BTEC Animal Care courses to our students.
Students get the opportunity to feed, water, groom, handle and health check over 30 animal species including goats, meerkats, lizards, snakes, rabbits, rats, sugar gliders and more. Students study a variety of units that include animal health, accommodation, feeding, behaviour and handling.
The centre not only delivers accredited qualifications but provides a sanctuary for students to come and develop their communication skills and confidence. Many cross-curricular lessons take place at the centre, measuring and weighing animals in Maths, writing animal based poetry in English, learning animal names in Spanish lessons and so much more. Students get the opportunity to come and see the animals during break and lunch and even assist in caring for some of the species in their free time.
Our centre offers provision for SEND learners, whether at our school or externally. We form many links with local schools, colleges and groups who bring learners for animal therapy, work based experience and animal encounters. We are a small team who can produce bespoke workshops for a wide range of abilities.
We also offer:
- Curriculum lead primary school workshops
- Holiday clubs
- Workshops for uniformed groups
- Annual community events
- Work placements
- Volunteering opportunities
- Community group workshops
Keep up to date with our exciting annual open events at our Facebook page here.
