As we approach the end of a long, busy and very successful term I would like to take this
opportunity to wish you a very happy Christmas and New Year. I hope you find time to be together as families and with friends over the festive period.
The achievements of our students this term have been amazing. I am very proud of them, as I know you are. Please congratulate them on their effort and success and the contribution they have made to our wonderful school this term. Please also accept my sincere thanks for the support you as parents and carers have given the school. We will end the term as usual with a celebration assembly. This will finish at midday tomorrow, after which your son or daughter will be dismissed. Please remember that there will be no bus service at this time.
I am delighted to tell you that Worcestershire Admissions have had a record number of applications for places at Wolverley for September 2018. This popularity and oversubscription is testament to the hard work of students and staff and the support of you as parents and carers. Wolverley’s reputation as a happy, caring and academically successful school continues to go from strength to strength within the community. Staff absence over the last 12 months has been at an all-time low with the school not needing to use agency staff for unexpected absence at all. This is highly unusual for a school and provides the students with the consistency needed to promote the highest possible standards. Student’s attendance has also been excellent this year and our whole school emphasis of the importance of homework and use of student planners has been very well supported. Thank you. Investment in our unique site remains a priority to us. Following a successful grant application, extensive work is currently being undertaken to install a lift on the ski slope and to renovate the existing matting and netting. We are planning a special opening event in late January, details of which will follow soon. We have also had confirmation that the final round of window replacement will take place at Easter and the walkway and classrooms in The Mall will have a significant makeover. We took delivery of our brand new ‘Minibus Lite’ last week, which can be driven by all staff and will enhance enrichment opportunities, sport and intervention support for students.
At the end of term, we will say goodbye to our Assistant Caretaker, Bob Jones, who leaves us after 10 years of loyal service. I wish him well and thank him for all his hard work and dedication during his time at Wolverley. It looks unlikely that we shall have a white Christmas as we’ve had our fair share of the white stuff already! I would like to thank you for your support last week when so much snow and ice provided us with challenging circumstances. The decision to close the school or keep it open will never be taken lightly and will inevitably not always prove to be the consensus of the community. I was very grateful of the support you gave and all the positive comments last week about our communication systems and rationale for closure.
The new term starts on Wednesday 3rd January 2018 at the normal time. I expect students to come back to school in full and correct uniform. Please be mindful of our policy on shoes (not trainers or pumps) if you are purchasing footwear over the holidays.
