New independent learning facilities

Students now have a dedicated space where they can work individually thanks to the complete transformation of an unused room into a state of the art Independent Learning Centre.

With research indicating that independent learning can help to improve academic performance and increase motivation and confidence, the new centre allows students to complete work without being reliant on a teacher. This enables them to set their own goals, plan how to turn those goals into reality and importantly make their own assessment of what has been achieved.

Unlike the school’s ICT suites, students from all year groups are able to freely use the Independent Learning Centre ensuring they have access to up to date equipment at all times.

Bryn Thomas, Headteacher, said, “Everyone at our school works hard to ensure our Ambition Unlimited philosophy is put into practice.  Therefore, we are continually looking at what we can do to ensure our students strive to reach their full potential, and the introduction of the Independent Learning Centre is a major part of that. It has proven extremely popular and we fully expect it will help our students maintain the high academic standards we expect.”

As well as the creation of the Independent Learning Centre, further refurbishment is underway at our school to enhance the facilities available to students. This includes the renovation of the science block with the creation of six brand new, fully equipped laboratories and the refurbishment of the Design and Technology classrooms.
