Matthew Shilvock

Former Wolverley High School pupil, Matthew Shilvock, has recently been named as General Director of the San Francisco Opera Company and will take up his new role on 1st August 2016.

Matthew was born in Kidderminster in 1976 and attended Wolverley First School before moving up to Wolverley High School.  He progressed to Christ Church Oxford to study music and also holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He began his professional career in opera in 2002 as a Fellow with OPERA America, the national service organisation for opera companies in North America.

Matthew joined the San Francisco Opera Company in 2005 and has served at Associate General Director since 2010.  He currently leads five departments – Music Operations, Electronic Media, Education, the San Francisco Opera Centre and Rehearsal – as well as serving as Interim Director of Development.

Everyone at Wolverley CE Secondary School wishes Matthew the very best of luck in his new role.
